Job Opening: Library Assistant I
Appleton Public Library
Hours: 12-16 hours per week
Job description: Shelves books and materials in their proper locations, maintains orderly shelf appearance, performs basics of check-in, check-out and patron registration, responds to patron inquiries and assists in locating reference and other materials, answers incoming phone calls, helps prepare library for closing, and performs related work as apparent or assigned. Candidates must have a flexible schedule to allow for daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.
Qualifications: Requires some high school coursework and an understanding of library organization and services; or a combination of education, training and experience necessary to perform the requirements of the job. Must have attention to detail and be able to use alphabetical and numerical classification systems when instructed. Strong customer service skills are required. Computer skills are strongly desired.
Physical requirements: Requires walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing carts filled with books, feeling, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.

program for 0-5 year olds
How This Program Works
1. Enroll your child at the Appleton Public Library and receive your 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten journal, the pages to track your first 100 books, and your starting information.
2. After each set of 100 books is read and recorded, take your journal to the library to receive a prize and the journal pages for your next 100 books.
3. When you and your child have read and recorded your 1000th book, take your journal to the Appleton Public Library for your final reward. A staff member will take a picture of you and your child for the Appleton Press.
